Welcome back Indie Game Enthusiasts! I know it’s been a while. During these past few months I have been busy with school but now it’s summertime! Today, on Indie Game Update, I will share the list of topics I intend to cover for the summer of 2024!
1. The King’s Dilemma (Progress)
Last summer, I worked endlessly on creating the demo for The King’s Dilemma. So far, we have had 261 views and 17 downloads! I am very happy that people were able to discover TKD. This summer, I plan to take a step back to rest. I will still create some concept art for our main characters to post along with the newsletter so that will keep me improving my art for TKD when creation of the game will continue.
2. Resting and Gaming Journey
Since this summer will be a summer of rest, I plan on entering my gamer girl era. Yes, you heard that right! I’ve never been a gamer, but I have always loved Mario games so I got the New Super Mario Bros U. game!
Does anybody want to tell me why Mario is a lot harder than I remember. (I’m stuck on the Acorn Plains-Crushing Cogs Tower right now. Please don’t judge.) New Super Mario Bros for the DS was so much easier.
3. Relearning Ren’py
I want to learn and familiarize myself with the layout and tools since it has been a while since I have used Ren’py. I did start making a game over winter break to release during Valentine’s day but everything became busy. Now I am ready to gain a better understanding of the software and to learn more advanced features.
3. History of Popular Games Indie and Commercial
While this newsletter is supposed to show my journey as an indie game developer, as well as teach you how to go about developing your own games, I believe it is important to look at case studies of successful games. One game I find particularly important to study is Mario. Mario has been a worldwide success and continues to have remakes and spans through generations of newly developed gaming consoles! I would love to research and give my insight as to what makes Mario marketable and iconic.
4. Inspirational Videos
I also want to share interesting and encouraging videos I find with you since game development can be hard when doing the work solo.
These are the summer 2024 updates! I hope you are excited, and I can’t wait to share with you. Have a nice day!
**(Updates on Tuesday!)**
See you soon!
